Snoring, restless sleep, morning headaches, jaw soreness, and daytime fatigue can be frustrating. Some symptoms may be related to obstructive sleep apnea, but diagnosis and medical guidance matter.

At Patel Dental and Implants, custom oral appliances may be discussed for teeth grinding, athletic protection, and certain sleep-related needs when clinically appropriate.

What oral appliances can do

Many oral sleep appliances are designed to gently position the lower jaw, and sometimes the tongue, forward during sleep. This can help create more room behind the tongue for appropriate patients.

They are not right for every sleep apnea case, and they are not a universal replacement for CPAP.

Questions to ask

  • Have I had a medical sleep evaluation or diagnosis?
  • Is my case mild, moderate, or severe?
  • Am I unable to tolerate CPAP, or am I looking for a travel-friendly option?
  • Are my teeth, gums, jaw joints, and bite healthy enough for an appliance?
  • What follow-up or adjustment visits are needed?

Why custom fit matters

A custom appliance is made from records of your mouth and bite. That fit can improve comfort and consistency compared with over-the-counter guards.
